😵LACK OF SALT RAISES ANXIETY:
You see, minerals are incredibly important to neurotransmitter activity and efficiency. For example, without salt, our GABA production looses it’s efficiency. This is because GABAergic nerve terminals accumulate (GABA) by a SODIUM-dependent carrier mechanism (Nelson et al., 1982). Similar to the Serotonin Transporter (SERT), which is also sodium dependent.
👁LOW SALT INCREASES ADRENALINE:
The increase of adrenalin caused by salt restriction has many harmful effects, including insomnia and irritability. Many old people have noticed that a low sodium diet disturbs their sleep, and that eating their usual amount of salt restores their ability to sleep (Peat et al., 2019).

Low-salt (LS) diet activates the SYMPATHETIC nervous system (Fight or flight), which can increase insulin resistance. In healthy subjects a low salt diet is associated with an increase in insulin resistance (Garg et al., 2011).
