🛑 HALF-LIFE OF UP TO 280 DAYS!
A substance biological half-life refers simply to how long it takes for half of the dose to be metabolized and eliminated from the bloodstream. Did you know that in humans, Zinc can have a biological effect for up 280 days (Nriagu, 2011), which means, toxicity can VERY quickly catch you off guard.
‼️CAN CAUSE COPPER DEFICIENCY:
Excess zinc may cause a copper deficiency. Oh, but who cares about copper…? Well, insufficient copper can cause IMMUNE DYSFUNCTION, and make it difficult to produce immune cells (Djoko et al., 2015).
⚠️ZINC LOWERS CORTISOL:
Findings from one clinical trial in humans, demonstrated an acute INHIBITORY effect of zinc on CORTISOL secretion (Neto, 1990). Therefore, it may be prudent to take zinc before bed, as CORTISOL can disrupt sleep (DM me for more sleep hacks).
♻️INTERFERES WITH IRON ABSORPTION:
Excess zinc in supplemental form can lead to IRON DEFICIENCY (de Brito et al., 2014) particularly if you are already low in iron, or have a history of anaemia. Avoid taking Zinc supplements at the same time as Iron supplements or iron rich foods.
Zinc is critical for overall health, however, if you are supplementing Zinc, please ensure you are being monitored via regular blood testing, as toxicity is VERY real. Be smart, stay safe, most things in life require balance.
